In Other Wor(l)ds: An Online Generative Literary Translation Workshop

Designed for aspiring to mid-career translators, this two-week online workshop will help you find and refine your literary translation practice. Develop your translations with instructors who are experts in the field and share your work with an international, multilingual cohort. Using theoretical readings and examples of works by renowned translators, instructors will focus on literary translation as a cross-cultural, creative endeavor and guide you through some of the most relevant topics in the field today, including translating racial, gender, and sexual identities, reviewing work in translation, and how to begin publishing your work. Each participant will receive a thirty minute one-on-one conference with one of the instructors. The workshop will be conducted seminar-style, in synchronous classes and breakout groups three days a week, and in synchronous bilingual readings twice a week. During asynchronous days, you will work at your own pace on your translations and contribute to instructor-facilitated discussions within NYU’s online learning platform. All participants will have the opportunity to share their work in online readings, reaching a national and international literary audience. By the end of the workshop, writers will have finished a polished translation that they may continue to prepare for publication. This course is part of the ongoing Professional Translation Special Topics Series Upon successful completion of this course, you will automatically earn a digital badge.   Questions?
