This is an accelerated certificate program with online and in-person options. To receive your certificate, you must declare your candidacy by completing the Declaration of Candidacy form.
Artificial intelligence is revolutionizing communication practices, providing professionals with a suite of powerful tools that can accelerate processes and assist with various communication tasks.
You will be introduced to key communication-focused AI programs that enhance writing, research, presentation, design, multimedia, and promotional projects. We will provide you with a series of AI strategies to empower your work today. The course will also introduce you to fundamental communication practices that will lead to more purposeful use of AI for your communication goals.
You will learn how to use AI to improve the clarity, style, and impact of your writing; energize your research practices; craft image-rich presentations and documents; and develop promotional campaigns to instantly reach online audiences.
Before the course begins, it may be helpful for students to explore tools like Google Drive, Google Docs, Gmail, Zoom, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint. For those enrolled in the course, brief videos explaining the basics of these tools will be provided. Becoming familiar with one or more AI models such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Grok, Perplexity, etc. can also enhance the learning experience.

The certificate is awarded to students who declare candidacy and successfully complete the one required course listed below with a grade of B or higher.

If you are looking to hone the skills to evaluate a wide range of AI technologies focusing on communication outcomes and contexts, this accelerated certificate may be right for you. In the program, you will build expertise in AI programs and the confidence to effectively utilize the technology to advance critical work, writing, and communication goals. You will also learn to develop personal frameworks for responsible AI use, research and media literacy, and communication ethics.
There are no prerequisites.
Yes, students from all over the world take our courses.
The accelerated certificate must be completed within one semester (12 weeks).

It’s preferable if you do, but you can still declare candidacy even after taking a course. Declaring candidacy does not commit you to completing it, but you will receive a 10% discount on future NYU SPS continuing education courses.
Assuming the course is part of the certificate, yes, but only if the course was taken within an acceptable time frame. The academic department gives students a specific amount of time to complete a certificate. The start date would be adjusted to the first class to which we applied the discount.
Yes, if a student declares candidacy for a certificate and achieves an average overall grade of B or higher in courses counting toward the certificate, they will be awarded a certificate badge upon completion, which will be shareable on their resume and LinkedIn profile.
No, continuing education courses and certificates do not qualify for financial aid.
Most continuing education programs do not count as credit toward a degree.
