Rachel Hirschfeld is an internationally renowned expert in estate planning and a fervent advocate for people, their companion pets and owned animals. She has advised animal shelters, rescue organizations, farms, zoos, and wildlife sanctuaries. Rachel is a legal practitioner and animal welfare attorney, one of the first ever attorneys to develop an expert focus on Animal Law, specializing in animal law, pet trusts, and the Pet Protection Agreement* pet trust, which she created. 

The trauma of the catastrophic illness of Soupbone, her beloved shelter dog set her on her life’s path. She created the Pet Protection Agreement® pet trust and The Hirschfeld Pet Trust©. Both offer legal ongoing care, valid in all fifty states, for all animal’s uninterrupted care. Ms. Hirschfeld’s Pet Protection Agreement®, which continues to save millions of pets each year, is available through www.PetTrustLawyer.com, and the online document services www.LegalZoom.com for individuals and www.PetProtectionAgreement.org specifically for those in the business of animals.

Ms. Hirschfeld is the founder of, and co-chairs, the New York County Lawyers Association’s Animal Law Committee.  An honors graduate of Yeshiva University’s Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Ms. Hirschfeld interned in U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno’s office. In 2017, she will be teaching “Pet Trusts: Saving Animal Companions from the Unexpected” at New York University’s School of Professional Studies.

She has also served on the Advanced Programming and Education Committees of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, on the Trusts and Estates and Animal Law committees of the American, New York State, New York County and New York City Bar Associations.

PETRIARCH: The Complete Guide to Financial and Legal Planning for a Pet's Continued Care, a book authored by Rachel Hirschfeld and published by the American Institute of Certified Accountants (AICPA), provides information needed to protect animals from the risk of their owners’ illness or death.

THE PERFECT PET TRUST: Saving Your Dog from the Unexpected, is a law review article authored by Rachel Hirschfeld and published by the Albany Government Law Review, Vol. 9.

Ms. Hirschfeld is often quoted in public media, including: ABC Nightline, Associated Press, CBS Early Show, CNN, Dow Jones, Forbes, Fox News, Huffington Post, The Today Show, The New York Post, The New York Times, The New Yorker, Newsweek, Newsday, The National Academy of Elder Law Attorney's Journal, Consumer Digest, and The Wall Street Journal. Thomson Reuters published her lectures.

Through her Pet Protection Agreement pet trust, which is designed to be affordable and supersede all other contracts, wills, trusts, Ms. Hirschfeld has brought credibility to pet protection and safeguarding animals.
