Writing in Stillness

Writing in stillness uses meditation, mindfulness practice, free writing, and related exercises as tools to deepen and broaden the writing process, to elicit and sharpen the writer’s voice, and to clarify the story that wants to be told. By alternating periods of writing and meditation, we will explore how stillness avails the space for our stories to unfold on the page. Each participant will be encouraged to evolve a narrative, fiction or nonfiction, over the course of the six weeks. If there is a “story” tapping you on the shoulder—what Willa Cather calls that which “teases the mind”—then this is your opportunity to begin writing it through greater presence.
