Across the country, the arts sector is reimagining how to more authentically reflect—and engage—the communities it serves. This course moves beyond theory to examine the strategic alignment of internal culture with external audience development, treating inclusion as a core competency essential for organizational sustainability. Students will analyze case studies of high-performing institutions to understand how to integrate equity into an artistic mission and effectively engage boards and executive leadership in the process. Through discussion, guest lectures, and research, students will develop a set of metrics to evaluate the impact of their initiatives on employee retention and organizational resilience. The course culminates in a professional written equity, diversity, and inclusion plan targeting a specific cultural organization. This course may be used to fulfill the requirements of the Certificate in Arts Management. Questions? Contact us at The Center for Publishing, Writing, and Media.
