Martha Blackwelder

Martha Blackwelder

Martha Blackwelder is an Asian fine art consultant and certified appraiser with the AAA. She is a former curator of Asian art at the San Antonio Museum of Art and former Executive Director of Asia Society’s new Texas Center in Houston. Under her leadership, Asia Society opened its new $48.4 million building in 2012. While curator, she more than doubled the collection at SAMA, organized exhibitions, and co-authored At the Edge of the Sky with John E. Vollmer.

Blackwelder has taught at the Appraisers Association of America and has been an appraiser on WGBH Boston’s Antiques Road Show. She teaches Asian Fine and Decorative Arts at NYUSPS in the Center for Applied Liberal Arts.
