Sylvia Picard-Schmitt

Adjunct Instructor

Sylvia Picard-Schmitt has been teaching intermediate and advanced English at the ALI since 2013. In every course, Sylvia engages her students in critical thinking on current events and topics of general interest so that students are developing their analytical skills as they improve their English proficiency. Prior to joining the ALI Sylvia was involved in Adult Education for over a decade, most recently with an NGO at the UN that educated adults and university students about global issues and the role of the UN. Sylvia has an MA in TESOL from NYU, an MA in Theology from Fordham University and a BA in English from Georgetown University.

Intermediate-level English speakers study paragraph structure, development, organization, and editing for general and academic purposes.

Planning and Assessment

Gain exposure to a variety of strategies for teaching and assessment, and then incorporate them into lesson planning and hands-on teaching.
