Maxine Steinhaus

Clinical Assistant Professor

Maxine Steinhaus has been at the ELI since 1981 as an instructor and a program coordinator.  She now heads The Mastering English Program.  Maxine received her Masters Degree in TESOL from Teachers College in 1984, and her B.A. from the New School for Social Research in 1980.  In 1994, she received the Award for teaching excellence from the School of  Professional Studies, NYU.  Her curricular focus in recent semesters has been the creation of elective courses designed for international students, including a course on American government, American Culture and Communication and New York history.  Her ongoing work teaching contemporary American literature is a key component of her courses.
