Grammar Master Class: Better Sentences for Better Writing

We’re sorry but Section One for spring is now full/closed. If you wish to be added to the wait list, please send an email to us at kf38@nyu.edu. We will contact you by email if a space becomes available. The wait list is for spring semester only.
Are you becoming more comfortable with grammar but still feel dissatisfied with your writing? If you want to take your writing to the next level, do what the pros do: Focus on sentences. This class will help you identify and break old writing habits, elevating your writing one sentence at a time. Whether you want to hone your voice as an aspiring journalist, breathe life into your prose as a creative writer, or communicate more forcefully and persuasively in the workplace, this course will give you the tools to help your sentences sing. Each week, explore a short work of nonfiction, paying attention to how writers structure sentences for maximum impact. Then integrate some of these strategies into your own writing, drafting, workshopping, and revising as you compose short works of creative or professional writing. With guided exercises and instructor feedback, learn to recognize and overcome writing habits that hold you back while growing as a writer—sentence by sentence.
