Collage: The Invention of Images

Modern artists as diverse as Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Max Ernst, Robert Rauschenberg, and Romare Bearden used collage to break free from the conventions of traditional drawing and painting. Explore the creative possibilities of the form using a wide variety of materials and sources that allow for a diverse range of references and imagery. Experiment with elements of design and properties of color to deepen your understanding of the process. Students will receive a supply list prior to the first class session. A full set (314 colors, 2" x 3") of Coloraid papers is recommended for this course. Coloraid papers may be purchased at www.coloraid.com or at art supply stores.
