Translation and Interpreting Summer Institute (Chinese)
Do you code-switch easily between Chinese and English? Is verbal gymnastics your sport of choice? Are you wondering how you might actually become a professional translator? This intensive course is your chance to get in on the action. Spend three weeks on the NYU campus and gain a thorough introduction to the business and practice of translation and interpreting. Come explore the fine craft of translation between Chinese and English, receive training in conference interpreting, meet industry experts at panel discussions, and take excursions to discover firsthand the dynamic of this year’s theme—Voice and Access in Community—all in the multicultural hub of New York City. Tailored to the needs of the undergraduate student or translator, this summer program provides rigorous training in the fundamentals of translation and interpreting while giving you full exposure to the ins and outs of the language service business. The three weeks also includes highlights such as a guided tour of the UN language service divisions and excursions to important cultural centers/museums. The program culminates in a full-day symposium of panels, interpreting contests, and student presentations.
