Tisch Center internship spotlight: Tristan Jordan, LW Hospitality Advisors

Tristan Jordan is a senior in the BS Hotel and Tourism Management at the Jonathan M. Tisch Center of Hospitality. This semester, he is interning at LW Hospitality Advisors, the leading hospitality valuation and advisory services firm focused on hotels, resorts, gaming properties, and conference center assets worldwide. Tristan tells us more about his internship and career ambitions here.

Where are you interning and what is your job title?

I am currently an Asset Management intern at LW Hospitality Advisors in New York.

What projects have you been working on so far?

My role as an Asset Management intern is to provide support to the Asset and Property Management team at the New York Office. In doing so, I’ve engaged in market studies, financial analyses, due diligence assignments and underwriting for property performance enhancements. The process of underwriting essentially consists of preparing documents that get sent out to the client. I have also been collaborating dashboard tools that are utilized in the process of understanding financial information and marketing information.

What do you enjoy most about your internship so far?

I think the most enjoyable aspect of my internship is that every day is a new learning experience. Every day for me is different and there’s always something new to be a part of, to learn and to contribute. Another interesting aspect of my internship has been applying the things I learned in the classroom to my internship.

Have there been any challenges in your internship thus far? If so, how have you learned to overcome them?

There is certainly a learning curve because I’ve been learning how the hospitality side of things impact the financial side, which is something I am unfamiliar with. However, my team has been there to support me. I know that once I comprehend the material, it starts to become a lot more simple.

What do you hope to take away from your internship?

I want to gain a better financial understanding of how a hotel operates and how to manage expenses so that hotels can ultimately perform better.

What are your future plans?

I’d like to stay in asset management upon graduation. I hope that it’ll further my financial knowledge to eventually lead me into hospitality development. Ultimately, I’d like to develop and own hotels in the future.
