Dear SPS Alumni,
One thing that has always impressed me about SPS is the dedication and affection of our alumni for the school. It is welcome but unsurprising that so many of you have written in to express your concern over how we are faring on the campus in the wake of the current health crisis. As you may have heard, at this time, all classes and office operations have moved to fully remote for the coming weeks. Our feedback so far has been positive. Please know, as we navigate this evolving situation, our two guiding principles are: the health and safety of our community and the continued academic progress of our students.
As you no doubt have read, the situation across New York City and our global sites is unprecedented. Our concerns and support extend beyond our own community to all who are suffering due to this health crisis. I know that many of our alumni and friends across the world are also being impacted by this terrible virus, and we continue to keep you in our thoughts during these challenging times.
At SPS, our faculty and staff do not simply “do their jobs.” They serve with passion and commitment out of a belief in our mission, the nature of our community, and their affection for and belief in our extraordinary students. I have appointed a working group that meets frequently to assess all issues and communicate with SPS students, faculty and staff. That is why we can continue to deliver remote instruction and core services to our students, even in this remarkably challenging environment.
Following recent University guidelines, all non-essential, in-person gatherings including events, conferences, meetings and other forums, along with international visits, are being cancelled. Accordingly, we have made the difficult decision to cancel SPS alumni mixers in New York, London and Shanghai. The Schack Institute’s REIT Symposium has also been cancelled and the Evening of Monopoly has been postponed.
We will continue to provide you with a comprehensive update in the coming weeks. In the meantime, you can reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org with any concerns or questions. You can also keep updated by checking our website sps.nyu.edu or follow us on our social media channels listed below.
In the coming weeks and months, we will need your continued support. We know we can count on you. Let us all do what is necessary to protect our health and that of our family, friends and neighbors.
Susan Greenbaum, Ed.D.
