The HSMAI Annual Intercollegiate Conference is coming up!

Sabrina Huang, an undergraduate student at the Tisch Center of Hospitality, tells us more about the HSMAI Annual Intercollegiate Conference, which will take place from April 2nd to April 7th, 2022.

What is the HSMAI Annual Intercollegiate Conference?

Featuring a great lineup of speakers and panelists, HSMAI Annual Intercollegiate Conference is a unique opportunity for hospitality students and faculty to gain valuable insights and connect with top industry professionals. The conference will be supported by the HSMAI Foundation, providing more clout and resources for global outreach to grow and enhance the overall program.

HSMAI is a global organization of sales, marketing, and revenue management professionals representing all segments of the hospitality industry. With a strong focus on education, HSMAI leads the way in identifying and communicating trends in the hospitality industry. Operating as a leading voice for both hospitality and for sales, marketing, and revenue management disciplines, HSMAI connects its members with customers. Founded in the United States in 1927, HSMAI is a membership organization comprising 5,000 members from 35 countries and chapters worldwide.

The HSMAI Annual Intercollegiate Conference is held once per year. This year’s event will be held from April 2nd to April 7th, 2022.

How are you involved in the conference? What is your role?

This year, I am excited and honored to be the NYU student representative to collaborate with HSMAI Foundation and student representatives from other hotel schools in the United States.  I am charged with creating and delivering the Annual HSMAI Intercollegiate Global Conference this Spring, connecting with industry professionals, and moderating panel discussions.

What are the goals of the conference?

Last year, we welcomed 17 schools and over 300 students from the United States, Europe and Asia. The conference was a big hit, and very well received from both students and faculty. This year brings new opportunities for the conference and students. Our goal is to double the number of students and school participation to over 600 and 35, respectively. Thus, more students will be benefiting from the event and learning various insights from the professionals.

What different universities are involved and how do they work together? What are some themes you will cover?

New York University, CityTech, Pennsylvania State University and St. John’s University work on the student committee to organize the conference. We support each other and organize the events starting at the beginning of Spring. The program will be focusing on: Sales & Marketing Insights, Revenue Management, Digital Marketing & Ecommerce, Personal Branding, Career Development, Entrepreneurship, Alumni Insights.

Anything else you’d like to add?

I encourage all hotel students to join this event, as the conference really covers most of the topics in the hospitality industry. It is a great opportunity for hotel students to learn and gain insights from so many different professionals. Remember to learn, network and grow…the opportunity is right here for us!
