Harvey J. Stedman Award Winner, Dilek Tas

DAUS senior, Dilek Tas, has been selected for the Harvey J. Stedman Award. Named in honor of Harvey J. Stedman, who was dean of the NYU School of Professional Studies from August 1982 until August 1990, this award is presented annually to a graduating student who exemplifies the life and the achievements of the adult student.

Dilek came to NYU SPS from Anatolia, Turkey. She emphasizes how the educational environment at SPS made it possible for her to go beyond her comfort zone and to be open to new challenges:

“The most rewarding courses I took at SPS consisted of me entering the classroom with a certain perspective about a subject and exiting the classroom having had my positions challenged by my classmates and professors. It is the abundance of new viewpoints that you gain while attending school here that will enrich not only your academics but also your professional and social life.”

In addition to the Harvey J. Stedman Award, Dilek has been awarded numerous scholarships during her tenure at NYU SPS. She also is an NYU SPS Dean’s Undergraduate Scholar, which provided her with the opportunity to mentor two high school students for two semesters.

As with all of those students graduating, Dilek looks forward to celebrating this milestone with her fellow classmates. She reflects, “I was privileged to make long-lasting friendships with some of my classmates. Often, when we get together outside of the classroom, we catch ourselves talking about memorable incidents during the courses we took together. We talk about missing professors because they made such great impacts on our education and our lives. I am proud to be an SPS graduate.”

Congratulations Dilek and the class of 2020! #NYUSPS2020
