Basketball Analytics
Basketball Analytics takes a deep dive into the world of data, statistics, and decision making in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Utilizing data made available through the NBA and other publicly available resources, students will learn to use analytics to answer the right questions, and provide best practice solutions through critical thinking. Students will also be introduced to basic statistical principles, statistical programming, as well as data visualization, and texts on the importance of analytics both in and out of the sports context.
The course will be taught through a combination of lectures, class discussion, group presentations and guest speakers. Students are required to read assignments from the texts as well as additional sources provided by the professor. Students must attend class prepared to engage in discussions; have, articulate and defend a point of view; and ask questions and provide comments based on their reading.
