Catherine Cheng Stahl is pursuing her doctorate in Curriculum and Teaching at Teachers College Columbia University. In addition to her teaching in the MS in Professional Writing, Catherine’s work in higher education focuses on writing instruction and exploring gender and curriculum with an intersectional feminist approach. Catherine also has five years of experience as a classroom teacher for high school students, teaching biology and chemistry. Much of Catherine’s passion for writing as an everyday practice for inquiry and understanding the world is rooted in her deep desire to learn—in nuanced ways—how young people make sense of, negotiate, and navigate their complex identities. Catherine believes strongly in the power of storytelling and in the knowledge emerging from individuals' lived experiences. She engages in qualitative, multimodal, ethnographic, and participatory methodologies to elevate digital identities and literacies through exploring the complex and nuanced ways young people come to know and (per)form themselves in technology-mediated, connective worlds.
