Overview

Founded in 1967 by Larry Silverstein and the leadership of the New York City real estate industry, the Schack Institute is at the forefront of real estate education and is recognized globally as one of the world’s leading centers of real estate research and pedagogy. Across the Institute’s four degree programs—the MS in Real Estate, the MS in Construction Management, the MS in Real Estate Development, and the BS in Real Estate.

Schack’s extensive network consists of executives who have a proven track record of success in the industry. Faculty members have deep expertise in real estate finance and development, rooted in their practical experience. An anchor of real estate academia’s engagement with industry, the Institute is home to the CREFC Center for Real Estate Finance, the NYU REIT Center, the NYU Urban Lab, and the Center for the Sustainable Built Environment. In addition, the Institute hosts national industry events, including annual conferences on real estate capital markets, the REIT sector, and sustainability.

Schack offers one of the world’s leading undergraduate real estate programs and three industry-focused graduate degrees—the MS in Real Estate, the MS in Real Estate Development, and the MS in Construction Management.

Graduate students have the option to pursue their degrees on a full-time or part-time basis. Full-time students in Schack’s Accelerated Track can complete their degrees in just one year. In addition, working professionals based in New York City and elsewhere who enroll at Schack on a part-time basis have options to pursue their studies during the day, evening, and on weekends with our Executive Track. The Schack Institute of Real Estate also offers a broad array of continuing education and executive education programs.

Schack’s classroom experience is complemented by a rich array of co- and extra-curricular programming, including global field intensives in real estate capitals such as London, Shanghai, and Tokyo; conferences; guest lectures; site visits; case competitions; and myriad networking opportunities with industry professionals and our renowned alumni.
