The NYU SPS Jonathan M. Tisch Center of Hospitality Innovation Hub (HI Hub) recently welcomed Carly Chase, a vice president at US News & World Report and an adjunct professor at Columbia Business School, for a MasterClass session on what entrepreneurship can do for YOU and how you can get started.
Students attending the session had the opportunity to hear about Chase’s diverse background in a variety of industries and organizations, ranging from governmental work, corporations, startups, and academia. From there, Chase encouraged students to share why they were interested in joining the session and learning more about entrepreneurship. While some students attended the session to simply learn more about entrepreneurship in general, others were interested in gaining advice or suggestions for their current startups and business ventures.
Chase went on to illustrate the importance of entrepreneurs, the skillset and mindset needed to be an entrepreneur, and how to get started as an entrepreneur, starting with the number one question she believes needs to be answered: What is the problem I’m solving?
The session ended with an overview of how to properly conduct primary market research (PMR) and the importance of PMR throughout the entire cycle of a business venture because, according to Chase, “The pace of change will never be as slow as it is today”.
