Schack Institute of Real Estate

ESG & Commercial Real Estate

This course enables students to understand the complexities of the development, investment, management and operation of commercial real estate assets in a sustainable manner following Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) practices and by ESG risk assessment. Environmental risks are associated with properties or land, their interface with each other, and their impact on human health. Social risk refers to the impact companies can have on communities, neighborhoods and society. Governance risk refers to the way companies are run and often can include diversity and equity issues as well as ethics. This course further examines the opportunities and challenges involved in formulating and implementing strategies by taking a "systems" view of commercial real estate firms. Students examine multiple aspects of how real estate leaders address strategy, structure, culture, tasks, people, and outputs.
