MS in Travel and Tourism Management


Beginning in Fall 2021, the Jonathan M. Tisch Center of Hospitality will offer the MS in Travel and Tourism Management, which provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the global tourism industry. Making full use of its location in New York City—the world’s premier destination for international travel and business—the program integrates academic theory with real-world application so you can excel in this multibillion-dollar industry.

The program prepares you for travel and tourism roles in the public, private and voluntary sector. It challenges you to discover new ways in which technology can support a destination, explores how to attract and retain visitor markets, and how to manage tourism effectively and sustainably. Faculty members are respected experts in areas such as cultural heritage tourism, community tourism development, visitor management and public policy.

The age of travel

One of the largest industries in the world, the travel and tourism sector is growing fast due population growth, higher incomes, and increased leisure time. No longer just a luxury, travel has become a necessity for many people. The tourism sector is expanding at a rapid pace, and the demand for skilled professionals is likely to increase in the years to come. By 2026, travel, hospitality and tourism will provide 360 million jobs—one in every nine jobs on the planet!

Helping you go places

The MS in Travel and Tourism Management is international in scope, and explores in depth how destinations can market themselves and develop products to attract more visitors. It also considers the challenges in the sector, and places a strong emphasis on visitor management, sustainability and the needs of local communities. Niche products such as sports tourism and events, and entertainment are explored in elective classes, highlighting how travel and tourism intersect with a range of other sectors.


Study in New York City OR if you are unable to attend on-site in NYC for fall, you can start this degree remotely and join us on campus in Spring 2022.

Program Structure

Core Curriculum

The core curriculum is designed to provide you with a deep and broad foundation that serves you throughout your career. 


In the capstone courses, students apply their cumulative learning to projects that are set by our industry partners. One capstone features a consulting project, the other a research project.

Elective Courses

Students have the opportunity to include elective courses into their studies. Electives can be taken in tourism or in other programs offered at the school.

Core Requirements

This 36-credit, full– or part-time program of study consists of a sequence of core courses, electives in specialized areas, and a capstone project whereby students carry out a research and consulting project for industry organizations. It is international in scope, and reflects the opportunities and challenges tourism managers face in today’s globalized world.

We require transcripts from all institutions where college credit was received. 


For Academic Year 2020-2021

Application Fee $150

Tuition depends on the number of credit hours a student enrolls in each semester. A part-time student taking 6 credit hours is billed $13,778 for tuition and fees for a semester. A full-time student taking 12 credit hours is billed $22,699 for tuition and fees for a semester. For a full breakdown of tuition and fees visit the Bursar's website.

Language Proficiency

TOEFL scores are required for applicants who did not complete an undergraduate degree in the United States or in a country where the only primary language is not English.  Successful candidates achieve a minimum score of 100 on the Internet-based test.

For the IELTS, a minimum overall band score of at least 7 is recommended.

NYUSPS does not prohibit applicants with lower TOEFL/IELTS scores from applying for admission since many factors influence the admissions decision. 

Pearson Versant English Placement Test (VEPT)

If an international applicant has not achieved the minimum scores as described above, they are required to participate in the VEPT, a 50-minute online test that evaluates English language proficiency.



The Jonathan M. Tisch Center of Hospitality is unique in offering an extensive range of exclusive scholarships to its graduate and undergraduate students. From fall 2019, all new graduate students at the Tisch Center receive a $10,000 scholarship upon registration. Continuing students can apply for scholarships each spring semester, and the funds will be disbursed in the following academic year in two installments (fall and spring).
