Paul Hanau has more than 40 years of legal experience in New York City and nearly 30 years of teaching experience at New York University and other leading universities.
For nearly 20 years, Mr. Hanau led a team of attorneys at MetLife responsible for legal matters relating to company-occupied real estate worldwide, as well as Aviation, Security, Procurement, Sports Marketing, Travel, Records Management, and other corporate functions in the United States. His extensive real estate experience includes acquisitions and dispositions, leases and subleases, net leases, build-to-suit transactions, construction contracts, space-sharing arrangements, and tax incentive transactions.
During much of his tenure at MetLife, Mr. Hanau served as lead counsel for legal matters involving the operation and management of Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village in New York City, a residential complex comprising 110 apartment buildings. In his procurement role, he was responsible for the development, negotiation, and management of outsourcing arrangements, as well as contracts for the goods and services necessary to support the operations of a multinational corporation.
Following his retirement from MetLife, Mr. Hanau became a partner at a boutique New York law firm, where he represented insurance companies and other clients in connection with a wide range of real estate matters. He also co-counseled with a major New York law firm on four significant stadium and arena naming rights transactions, building on his experience with MetLife Stadium and other sponsorship agreements.
Mr. Hanau is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at New York University where he has been teaching for nearly 30 years. He has taught graduate and undergraduate level courses at NYU on Negotiation and Dispute Resolution, Leasing, Real Estate Principles and Real Estate Law.
Mr. Hanau also lectures at Fordham University where he teaches Real Estate Law and Principles on both a graduate and undergraduate level. In the academic year 2024, he taught at the Syms School of Business at Yeshivah University.
