Major themes and issues include imperialism, the emergence of the U.S. as a world power, the Great Depression, the two World Wars, the Cold War, Vietnam and the 1960s, the rise of the European Union, the changing power structure and economies of China, Japan, and other Pacific Rim countries, and the dissolution of the Communist world.
