Are you thinking about grad school? Perhaps considering an impactful career in the cyber arena? Spend two weeks this summer in the heart of New York City studying with expert faculty from the NYU SPS Center for Global Affairs.
 
This course delves into the complex interplay between cybersecurity, politics, and policy. It explores the geopolitical landscape cyber threats, the role of nation-states and non-state actors, and the evolving regulatory frameworks designed to address these challenges. There will also be consideration of the cutting-edge technological developments affecting where cybersecurity goes next. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of cybersecurity's impact on international relations, national security, and economic stability. They will analyze critical policy debates, such as data privacy, critical infrastructure protection, and cyber warfare.
 
Key questions that will be considered are:
 

• How is the Internet governed?
• Which technologies disrupted security in this space?
• What challenges do governments face with the emergence of digital technologies?
• What is cyberwar and can it ever be violent?
• How do societal debates shape and influence cybersecurity?

 
Through case studies and real-world examples, students will develop a critical perspective on the ethical implications of cybersecurity technologies and the challenges of balancing security, privacy, and innovation. The course also provides an overview of emerging trends in cybersecurity, including artificial intelligence, blockchain, and the Internet of Things, and their potential security implications.
 
Learning Outcomes
 
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
 

• Analyze the geopolitical landscape of cyber threats and their implications for national security.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of cybersecurity policies and regulations.
• Critically assess the ethical dimensions of cybersecurity technologies.

NYU Housing Options: Apartment-style NYU housing is available for students in this program. Check-in will be Sunday, July 20 through Saturday, August 2nd. Direct housing costs will be $90 per night for a shared room or $135 per night for a single. Housing is limited and subject to availability. The priority deadline is March 28, 2025.
 

Summer 2025 tuition is $3,495.
 
Space is limited and applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning in February 2025 and continuing until the program is full.
