In this two-session course taught by a senior magazine editor with deep experience in newspaper, magazine, and digital media as well as marketing and book publishing, you’ll get an inside look into how the publishing and media industries work. You’ll learn the basic terminology used in publishing and media (What is a nut graf? A CMS? What’s the difference between a galley and an ARC?) as well as gain familiarity with the structure of publishing and digital media organizations, including how various departments work together. This course will give you the tools you need to get started if you’re interested in working as a writer, journalist, editor, copy editor, literary agent, marketer, or production manager, or simply satisfy your curiosity about what goes on behind the doors of your favorite media outlets.
