Entrepreneurship and the Arts
This course will explore the intersection of art and entrepreneurship, while providing artists and arts administrators with the essential knowledge needed to create an arts-related enterprise, whether a nonprofit, a for-profit business, or a “business of one.” We will look at the innovative ways that artists and individuals have gone beyond the traditional art world model to create new ventures, such as artist collectives, consultancies, and companies that provide goods or services to artists and arts organizations. This online course is self-paced (asynchronous). There also will be six live sessions on Zoom that will be recorded for students who are unable to attend the live sessions. This course may be used to fulfill the requirements of the Certificate in Arts Management.
This course is delivered in an online format that uses a combination of real-time, instructor-led (synchronous) video meetings and self-paced (asynchronous) learning within NYU’s online learning platform, and there are weekly deadlines for lesson and assignment completion.
