Hany Hawasly holds a Master’s in journalism from the University of Missouri. He is a New York-based independent filmmaker who tells stories between the United States and the Middle East. Born and raised in Syria, he specializes in Arabic-language documentary storytelling as bilingual editor, translator, and cultural consultant. In 2019, he worked on several inspiring documentary projects spanning subjects from everyday life in post-ISIS Raqqa to a one-of-a-kind all-woman metal band in Lebanon. Hany is the Director of Operations of the Video Consortium in New York, a global community of non-fiction filmmakers, where he organizes monthly gatherings that awaken, transform, and inspire established and up-and-coming video makers.  He teaches Multimedia Storytelling at NYUSPS in the Center for Applied Liberal Arts.
