Ann Gillard

Ann is the director of research and evaluation at SeriousFun Children’s Network, a global nonprofit organization of summer camps and programs for children living with serious illnesses and their families, free of charge. She is also a program evaluation consultant for youth-serving organizations and evaluation educator. Ann has over 15 years’ experience in applied research in youth development settings, especially camps. Her research focuses on how setting-level and organizational processes influence participant outcomes, and uses qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods. Ann is particularly interested in how youth organizations such as camp can advance equity, inclusion, and justice.


Ann holds a Ph.D. in Youth Development from Texas A&M University, a M.S. in Recreation Management from San Francisco State University, and a B.S. in Outdoor Recreation from Indiana University. She coordinates the American Camp Association’s (ACA) Camp Research Forum. She is also a member of the American Evaluation Association and Society for Research on Adolescence.
