Introduction to Podcasting and Radio Reporting

This fast-paced, hands-on course gives you the skills you need to create your own podcast, transition to a career in audio journalism, or become a more effective storyteller regardless of your field. Over just three days, you’ll get a primer on the industry, learn how to effectively interview and write for the ear, and gain audio recording and editing skills. Students then put it all together and produce their own mini podcast episode.

Previous students have used the skills in this class to become successful podcast producers. Others have created their own independent podcasts or launched shows at their employer. And many of the skills taught in the class--such as good storytelling, conversational writing, editing software, and the economics of media--have applications in a wide range of fields and industries.

Registering at least three weeks prior to the course start date is highly recommended.

Subject to availability, students become eligible to receive a 50% discount on Riverside.fm for remote interview recordings, and a 3-month free trial of Hindenburg editing software upon successful completion of this course. These offers are granted at the sole discretion of each vendor. NYU is not responsible if the terms of the offers change or are discontinued. Registered students should consult with the course instructor for details.

This course may be used to fulfill the requirements of the Certificate in Journalism and the Certificate in Storytelling. It may be taken to pursue these certificates, or as a standalone course.
