Media, Writing, and Communications Certificate in Journalism

Diploma Description

This writing certificate introduces you to the essential research, information-gathering, and reporting skills of journalism. Learn how to craft everything from feature writing and investigative reporting to long-form interviews and arts and music criticism. Whether you are an aspiring freelance or entrepreneurial journalist, a budding beat reporter, or seasoned news writer, the Certificate in Journalism will provide you with a well-rounded foundation of expert instruction and professional guidance from field veterans. It will prepare you for writing accurate and engaging articles and features, and give you the opportunity to explore a range of multimedia platforms.

The certificate is awarded to students who successfully complete three required courses and three elective courses from the list below. Courses from other Media, Writing, and Communications certificates may be applied as substitutions pending advance review and approval by the academic department. The certificate must be completed within three years of taking the first certificate-eligible course.

For advisement, please contact the Center for Publishing and Applied Liberal Arts at (212) 998-7289 or sps.pala.ce@nyu.edu.
