NEW YORK, September 28, 2022—The NYU School of Professional Studies Jonathan M. Tisch Center of Hospitality will present the Annual Stephen W. Brener Distinguished Lecturer Series in Hospitality Management, featuring guest speaker Anthony “Tony” Capuano, chief executive officer of Marriott International. The event will take place on Monday, October 17, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Astor Ballroom at the New York Marriott Marquis.

During the event, titled “Leadership Insights from the CEO of the World’s Largest Hotel Company,” Jonathan M. A reception will follow the discussion. Register for the Brener Lecturer Series on October 17.

Capuano presides over the world’s largest hospitality company and some of the most iconic brands in travel. He joined Marriott in 1995 and was instrumental in its steady growth over the years, which culminated in the acquisition of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide in 2016. The company today has more than 8,000 properties across 139 countries and territories and 30 brands. It also has the travel industry’s largest customer-loyalty program, Marriott Bonvoy, which has more than 164 million members.

On February 15, 2021, Marriott International announced the unexpected passing of its visionary and charismatic president and CEO, Arne M. Sorenson. Shortly after, it announced that the board had appointed Capuano as chief executive officer.

In its official announcement, J.W. “Bill” Marriott, Jr., executive chairman and chairman of the board, Marriott International, said, “Tony has played a critical role in Marriott’s growth over the last decade. He will be a terrific leader as we continue to advance our growth strategy while also navigating the market dynamics of the COVID-19 pandemic. He works thoughtfully and pragmatically with our owner and franchisee community and has been steadfast in ensuring Marriott delivers operational excellence and elevated customer experiences at our properties. Tony has a deep appreciation for Marriott’s thousands of associates who ultimately deliver on our customer and brand promise, and I know he will be a superb steward of our culture.”

During the talk, Capuano will share his perspective and experience having to follow in the footsteps of these two charismatic and successful leaders and deliver his insights on leadership in the hospitality industry.
