MS in Financial Planning

DEGREE STRUCTURE

CORE COURSES: Core required courses focus in key areas including: Financial
Planning and Risk Management; Investment and Wealth Management; Income Taxation and Strategy; Retirement Planning Strategies; Estates, Gifts, and Trusts;
and Research Applications in Financial Planning.

CONCENTRATIONS: Concentrations in Behavioral Finance and Financial Analytics build upon the core curriculum and provide deeply specialized knowledge in two emerging areas of interest. Please see list of concentrations below.

CAPSTONE: The capstone course integrates each of the major aspects of financial planning in the context of a comprehensive financial plan using case studies that apply financial planning principles, leveraging an integrative, holistic approach. It also provides an overview of software applications as well as data gathering, working with clients, creation of a comprehensive financial plan, presenting the plan, recommendations and implementation.

CORE REQUIREMENTS

This is a 30-credit program of study that requires completion of the core curriculum, a concentration, and a capstone course.

Concentrations

The MS in Financial Planning prepares graduates with the skills required to provide comprehensive financial planning services. Through the increased focus of the concentration courses in communication, money and relationships, and behavioral finance or statistics, personal finance data analytics, and investment data analytics, students will develop the skills necessary to qualify for more senior-level roles and increased income opportunities.

Students are required to choose one concentration and complete 3 courses from their selected concentration.
