Helio Fred Garcia has been on the SPS faculty since 1988 and has twice received the Dean's Award for Teaching Excellence (1990 and 2017). He has also received the Dean's Award for Outstanding Service (1998). He has taught communication ethics, communication strategy, communication law, investor relations, and similar courses. He is a founding faculty member in the MS in PR/CorpComm. In that program he currently teaches crisis communication.


Fred is also an adjunct professor of management in NYU's Stern Executive MBA program, where in 2016 he was named Executive MBA Great Professor. He is an adjunct associate professor of professional development and leadership at Columbia University’s graduate school of engineering. He has been a contract lecturer at Wharton School/UPenn since 2000, and a contract lecturer at U.S. Information School since 2012. He is a senior fellow in the Institute of Corporate Communication at Communication University of China, Beijing. He has written five books on reputation, communication, leadership and crisis. He has received the Public Relations Society of America - New York’s award for mentorship and for lifetime achievement.
