Lisa M. Samuel is Academic Director and Clinical Assistant Professor of Social Sciences at the Division of Applied Undergraduate Studies. She holds a PhD in international relations (with distinction) from Florida International University; an LLM in international law from the University of Miami; and an LLB (with honors) from the University of the West Indies. Samuel currently teaches courses in international relations and international law. As Academic Director of the Division, she leads an outstanding team to support faculty in the service of student learning and success. Before coming to NYU, she taught at Florida International University in the Department of Politics and International Relations, and at the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina where she was also a lead faculty member of the team that designed and implemented the College's International Studies Program. She brings a decade of management experience gained while working in private legal practice, government, and an international corporation. Samuel’s current research focuses on questions of justice in situations of difference in the global trade regime, and the utilization of research methods that challenge disciplinary norms for knowledge production.
