Yong Ho graduated from Columbia University with a Ph.D. in anthropological linguistics. He taught at New School University and directed the Chinese language program at China Institute in New York City before becoming the head of the Chinese Language Program at the United Nations (2002-2017). Currently, he is teaching for both SPS and Steinhardt at NYU.

Yong Ho is the translator of a number of books from English to Chinese and the author of a number of Chinese textbooks and dictionaries, including Aspects of Discourse Structure in Mandarin Chinese, Beginner’s Chinese, Intermediate Chinese, China: An Illustrated History, A Children’s Dictionary of Chinese, A Chinese-English Dictionary of 500 Most Frequently Used Words in Chinese (2001), Chinese-English English-Chinese Dictionary and Phrasebook, and Practical Chinese-English English-Chinese Dictionary.
