Mission Statement

Established in 1945, the English Language Institute (ELI) provides the English language skills needed to communicate effectively in academic, professional, and social settings and to engage fully in our interconnected global society.

Student-Centered Curriculum

The ELI student-centered curriculum offers a full range of proficiency levels in short-term and semester-long courses. You will practice language skills in every class while exploring a wide range of interesting topics. Classes are tailored to the language needs and goals of our students.

Expert Faculty

Our outstanding faculty are trained professionals in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and have decades of experience. They will provide individualized attention to help you succeed.

Global Community

Enjoy the benefits of a close community of teachers, students and staff wherever you are located. Classes are live and our extra-curricular activities are fun and engaging and give you the opportunity to meet other students and faculty. Come and create new friendships across the world.

Comprehensive English Program

Professional English Program

  • Master pronunciation, write powerful business documents, or enhance public speaking skills for career advancement 

  • Succeed in English in a variety of professional and social settings  

  • Evening and Saturday courses for high intermediate to high advanced proficiency levels

Mastering English Program

  • Dynamic three-week courses

  • Comprehensive English language instruction combined with rich content in business, international career pathways, university preparation, storytelling and social media

  • Open to high school students, college students, working professionals and adult learners

Corporate Education Program

  • Innovative corporate training programs and one-on-one coaching for your international employee teams and global executives

  • customized programs in such skills as: public speaking, negotiation, advanced pronunciation, cross-cultural communication, and professional writing

  • Tailored courses available onsite at your company, online, or at NYU
