Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide the English language skills students need to communicate effectively in academic, professional, and social settings, enabling them to engage fully in our interconnected and interdependent global society.

Student-Centered Curriculum

The ELI student-centered curriculum offers a full range of proficiency levels in short-term and semester-long courses. You will practice language skills in every class while exploring topics of interest. Classes are tailored to the language needs and goals of our students.

Expert Faculty

Our faculty are specialists in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). They will provide individualized attention to help you succeed. The ELI is a member of UCIEP, a consortium of college and university intensive English programs in the United States.

PROGRAMS

Established in 1945, the English Language Institute (ELI) was one of the first university-based language learning centers of its kind. Our faculty are specialists in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and will provide individualized attention to help you succeed. The ELI offers a comprehensive program of English language instruction and evaluation. We emphasize an integrated approach, ensuring that students gain a foundation in language structure and become comfortable and confident in communicating effectively in English.

Comprehensive English Program

The Comprehensive English Program (CEP) is a full-time or part-time intensive English program offered to non-native English-speaking students from very beginning to very advanced levels of proficiency.

Professional English Program

Evening and Saturday PEP courses provide you the language skills needed for career advancement. Whether your goal is to refine your accent, write more professionally, or enhance your public speaking skills, PEP courses help you gain a competitive edge.

Mastering English Program

The MEP is a dynamic, short-term English language program that offers a wide range of language courses and cultural learning experiences for international high school and college students, working professionals and adult learners.

Corporate Education Program

For organizations and firms, we offer innovative training programs and one-on-one coaching for your international employees who are seeking to communicate with confidence and fluency. Customized programs cover various communication skills such as presentation, negotiation, advanced pronunciation, cross-cultural communication, and professional writing. Courses are available onsite at your company, online, or at NYU. 

Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
