Department of Finance, Law, and Taxation Faculty Webinar Series: Assistant Dean Negar Farakish Hosts Fireside Chat with seasoned Faculty Member and Financial Planner, David Mendels

Financial planning thought leader and NYU SPS faculty member, David Mendels and Dr. Negar Farakish, Assistant Dean of the Division of Programs in Business, held a “Financial Planning Fireside Chat '' on December 8th, 2021. Mendels shared key tips on retirement planning to those at all stages of career and personal life and emphasized the importance of the timing of retirement planning. He suggested that the audience begin that process as soon as possible and provided advice to early and mid-career individuals as well as those nearing or in retirement.

Mendels also introduced the audience to the value of a financial planning education, and Farakish provided insight into the options available at NYU SPS for pursuing a career in this field through obtaining a Certificate in Financial Planning or applying to the M.S. in Financial Planning program launching in Fall 2022. The degree with its two cutting edge concentration options-Financial Analytics and Behavioral Finance-will provide a competitive advantage in the market to job seekers.

For over 30 years, the Department of Finance, Law, and Taxation at NYU SPS has been a leading educational provider for financial planning. In response to the increasing demand for managing finances and planning for the post-pandemic challenges and opportunities, the Division is proud to be launching the new M.S. in Financial Planning in Fall 2022.

 

David Mendels:

David is the Director of Planning for Creative Financial Concepts, LLC, where his focus is on creating cost-effective solutions for his clients. David also serves on the adjunct faculty of New York University, where he teaches financial planning to those seeking to become Certified Financial Planners ® .

An active speaker, David has conducted numerous seminars on topics ranging from retirement planning and retirement distribution strategies, to investments, to basic and advanced estate planning techniques, and charitable gifting strategies. He has published articles dealing with retirement planning, estate planning, and business succession planning, has been quoted in publications including Money, The New York Times, The Daily News, The New York Post, Kiplinger’s, Investment News, Dow Jones Investment Advisor, Registered Rep, and Wealth Manager. He has been interviewed on CNBC, NY1 News, The Wall Street Journal, ABC World News Tonight, and ABC EyeWitness News.

David has an MBA from Columbia University, and is a Certified Financial Planner. He is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma Alumni of New York (where he serves as President), the Financial Planning Association (where he is a past President of the NYC Chapter and past Chair of the National Advocacy Committee), and The Estate Planning Council of the City of New York (where he is a past Director).
