Meet the New Summer 2023 Faculty!

By NYU SPS Center for Publishing Staff

Summertime is coming, and so are two new members of the MS in Publishing faculty! Check out Kristen's and Megan’s brief bios, which include fun facts about their lives beyond their careers. Our newest adjunct faculty have done it all, from the bowling alley to the concert hall.

Kristen Altmeyer (Website Production: Managing a Digital Brand) is the Vice President and General Manager of Verywell Mind at Dotdash Meredith, where she oversees all content and business strategies and leads the brand’s mission to provide trusted and empathetic mental health support. Kristen has spent 15+ years launching and growing top-ranked apps and websites in the kids & family, health & wellness and sports industries. She’s held editorial and business leadership roles at Nickelodeon, NBC Universal, Meredith, & MLB Advanced Media. Kristen earned her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from The College of New Jersey and her M.B.A. from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business.

Fun Fact: Kristen’s dad was a professional bowler and is still winning tournaments to this day!

Pilar Garcia-Brown (Advanced Book Editing) is a Senior Editor at Dutton, an imprint of Penguin Random House. Previously, she worked at Mariner Books/Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. She concentrates on fiction in multiple categories, as well as the occasional narrative nonfiction. Recent and forthcoming titles include: the instant New York Times bestseller Black Buck by Mateo Askaripour; New York Times Editors’ Choice The Very Nice Box by Laura Blackett and Eve Gleichman; Kirkus Prize winner In Sensorium by Tanaïs; and Natural Beauty by Ling Ling Huang, which will be produced for TV by Constance Wu. She is co-chair of the Center for Fiction’s First Novel Fête Committee.

Fun Fact: Until college, Pilar wanted to be a professional clarinetist!
