NYU SPS’s Online Writing and Languages Society (OWLS) is a fully online, graduate student-led club aimed at bringing together individuals who are interested in communications on digital platforms across cultures. Students from both the MS in Translation and Interpreting (MSTI) and the MS in Professional Writing (MSPW) lead this club. The club organizes guest speakers, social and career events, and community service activities that connect local and global audiences. Recently they launched a blog to further engage online students.
On May 7, the OWLS team was awarded the ‘Outstanding Program Award for Community Engagement’ in the annual Passing of the Torch ceremony organized by NYU SPS Student Life.
Clea Mahoney, OWLS faculty advisor, says, “I am so thrilled with our club leaders' efforts in creating an online community for (and with) our graduate students. We decided to launch a blog to reach students and guest speakers in ways 'beyond Zoom,' and we are honored to win a community engagement award for that initiative. The blog is public and open to anyone, so please don't be shy about following along!”
