Fall 2019 New Faculty: Fun Facts

This semester we’re delighted to welcome three new faculty members to the NYU MS in Publishing: Digital & Print Media program. In addition to their professional accomplishments, these new additions to our wonderful faculty report some fun facts related to SNL, tap dancing, and left turns! Intrigued? Michael Joseloff (Magazine Marketing and Branding) is Global Chief Marketing Officer for Fortune Media Group, where he leads transformation efforts to build new direct-to-consumer premium membership business; develops global brand positioning and creative strategy; creates new custom studio division to secure high value digital revenue via digital, video, thought leadership, custom research, and events; and creates centralized data and analytics resources to serve all business stakeholders globally. Prior to joining Fortune Media Group, he was Chief Marketing Officer for TIME, FORTUNE, and MONEY at Meredith Corporation; he has also held positions at A+E Networks, Nickelodeon, Epix, and MTV Networks at Viacom, and Fourfront, as well as having been a consultant. Michael earned his M.B.A. from Fordham University.

Michael spent three seasons as a recurring extra on Saturday Night Live, appearing in skits with cast members Will Ferrell, Tracy Morgan, Amy Poehler, Jimmy Fallon, and Rachel Dratch.

Mary Beth Roche (Digital Formats: Audio, Podcasts, and eBooks) is the President and Publisher of Macmillan Audio, where she manages the acquisition process, casting, production and marketing for audiobooks by such authors as Marilynne Robinson, Nora Roberts, James Comey, Rick Atkinson, Lisa Scottoline, Oprah Winfrey, Jonathan Franzen, and Billy Crystal. She negotiates terms with digital distributors such as Audible, Google, and Apple, and oversees ongoing relationship with digital accounts. She is also Vice President of the Macmillan Podcast Division and of the company’s Speakers Bureau. Previously, she was Vice President and Publishing Director, Random House Audible, a joint venture between Random House and Mary Beth started her career in publicity and rose to be Publicity Director of Random House. She is a graduate of Wellesley College.

In her spare time, Mary Beth enjoys tap dancing. She says there may not be a chorus line in her future, but it is an entertaining way to get moving.

Christina Stanley (Workshop in Professional Writing in Publishing: Writing to Sell Your Ideas) is Associate Director of Training and Development at Penguin Random House, where she directs the Ideas Exchange program, an annual series of over 50 events, webinars, and education sessions on various topics and best practices for publishers, marketers, publicists, editorial, and salespeople; conducts specialized training and provides online content guidance for publishers on metadata and copywriting; oversees the editorial direction of the Penguin Random House internal website, including soliciting, writing, and editing blog pieces, webinars, documents, and instructional videos. She was previously National Accounts Manager and Project Manager, as well as having held positions at Macmillan, Oxford University Press, and Borders Group Inc. Christina earned her degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Just like UPS drivers, Christina don’t make left turns unless it’s completely unavoidable, and that’s almost never so. Sound crazy? She points out that this approach has been shown to save on both gas and time, plus it alleviates congestion and cuts down on accidents.
