Shaoyu Yuan

Dr. Shaoyu Yuan is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Global Security, Conflict, and Cybercrime at New York University's Center for Global Affairs, and a researcher with the Mapping Global China initiative. His work specializes in foreign policy, soft power, Sino-U.S. relations, and cyber statecraft.

He is the author of the book Reframing China: TikTok, Soft Power, and the Battle for Global Narratives, published by Palgrave Macmillan. His scholarly research has appeared in academic journals such as International Affairs, The Pacific Review, and East Asia.

Beyond academia, Dr. Yuan frequently contributes to public discourse. His writing has been published in The Washington Post, The Hill, and The Conversation. Additionally, his expert commentary has been featured across major international print and broadcast media, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, the Associated Press, the South China Morning Post, and NPR, as well as on-air for CBC, Channel NewsAsia (CNA), CGTN, and Phoenix TV.

He holds a Ph.D. from Rutgers University—where he also previously taught—an M.S. from Northeastern University, and a B.A. from Centre College.
