Hunam Yun is a writer, translator, and scholar of translation studies. Her research interests include literary translation, translation theory, translation in a post-hegemonic context, translation and the city, generative AI translation, and the ethics surrounding translation practices. Her work spans academic articles, exhibition reviews, creative writing across genres, and translations. Among her publications are Appropriations of Irish Drama in Modern Korean Nationalist Theatre (Rouledge) and Translation Theory and Practice for Professional Translators (Korean Studies Information). As a translator with approximately 60 published books, she has worked across diverse fields including literature (e.g., Waverley, The Medieval Myths, Andersen's Complete Fairly Tales and Stories, Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabit Series, and Arabian Nights), sociology, psychology, engineering, business, law and medicine. Her contribution earned her the Young Excellent Translator Award from the Korean Society of Translators. Holding an MA and a PhD in Translation Studies from the University of Warwick (UK), she has taught translation and interpretation in the English Language and Literature Department as a visiting and adjunct professor at Hongik University and Kyunghee University. Currently residing in New York City, she continues her work as a writer and translator. Her current work revolves around her newest book project that explores the intricacies of literary translation and how foreignness enters the world through translation.
