Margarett Jolly is currently Entrepreneur-in-Residence with Columbia Tech Ventures and a mentor for CleanTech Open where she advises cleantech startups on strategic growth, business development, and how to navigate the complex New York City market based on her expertise in grid management, clean technology, and innovation. As a dedicated technologist she has collaborated with industry leaders to develop innovative policy and technology solutions for the evolving power grid. Her career and educational background provide a unique perspective on the intersection of energy, technology, and urban development.
Jolly’s career at Con Edison, one of the nation's largest utility providers, showcases her extensive, hands-on experience and progression through the energy sector. Starting with power plant boiler and control systems, she later became the Distributed Generation Ombudsperson. Ultimately, as Director of Research, Development, and Demonstration, she was responsible for sourcing, developing, and scaling technologies and business models focused on grid management and edge technologies. This work included developing customer-facing solutions for storage, solar, and energy management tools for both residential and commercial clients.
An engaged leader in the energy community, Jolly held a Professional Engineer license in New York State and has served on the Boards of Green City Force and Grid Alternative Tri-State. She is a graduate of both New York City Technical College and The Cooper Union, where she earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering. This blend of practical experience and formal education has established her as a prominent voice in the movement toward a more sustainable and technologically advanced energy future.
