Jennifer Peirce is a researcher and policy professional with more than twenty years' experience in foreign policy, international development, and criminal justice reform work, including roles with the Inter-American Development Bank, the Canadian foreign ministry, and numerous NGOs in Latin America and West Africa. Jennifer is an associate director of research with the Vera Institute of Justice, with a focus on county-level criminal legal systems and ways to reduce local jail incarceration. She has published research on prison reform, human rights, rehabilitation programs, pretrial detention, solitary confinement in US and Latin American prisons, and the experiences of incarcerated transgender people. Jennifer has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in criminology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and international human rights at NYU's School of Professional Studies. She holds a PhD in criminology from John Jay College / CUNY Graduate Center and a Master's degree in International Affairs from Carleton University (Canada).
