Annelise Finegan is Academic Director of Translation & Interpreting and Clinical Associate Professor of Translation at the NYU School of Professional Studies Center for Publishing, Writing, and Media.
She is a translator from Chinese across genres, a scholar at the intersection of translation and performance, and a dedicated educator in translation across languages and the language professions more broadly. Her translations have received the Best Translated Book Award and the PEN Translates Award, as well as being longlisted for the International Booker Prize, the National Translation Award (US), and the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize (UK). She previously worked for academic and textbook publishers as an acquisitions editor, publishing coordinator, copy editor, and project manager. Her current book project, “Translational Stages: Chinese Theatrical Modernism,” explores the relationship between forms of translation and forms of theatrical expression. She received her PhD in Comparative Literature from Washington University in St. Louis.
