Darian Parker, PhD is an educator, science researcher, and dancer, who enjoys interdisciplinary study and teaching. Since joining SPS in 2018, he has taught Cultural Anthropology and Mathematical Reasoning, among other courses. Beyond NYU, Darian teaches West African dance in the College Dance Division of Juilliard. He is the founder and CEO of Parker Academics, a Manhattan-based tutoring company, and he has published two works in education studies—Sartre and No Child Left Behind: An Existential Psychoanalytic Anthropology of Urban Schooling (Bloomsbury, 2015) and “The Haze”, an essay in Pedagogies in the Flesh (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018). As an astrophysics researcher, he has worked on studies of solar flares and gravitational lensing. Darian earned his PhD from Yale in anthropology and African American studies, a BA from Columbia in astrophysics with a concentration in mathematics (2nd bachelor’s program), and BAs from UCLA in English and anthropology.
