Edward Maynard is a seasoned hospitality executive and educator whose career spans more than four decades at the highest levels of the global hotel and lifestyle hospitality industry. With nearly 20 years of teaching experience at New York University, Maynard brings an exceptional depth of real-world leadership, operational expertise, and strategic insight into the classroom, bridging theory and practice for the next generation of hospitality leaders.
Maynard’s professional journey reflects a rare, ground-up perspective. He began his career on the front lines of hotel operations, working his way up from bellman to front desk agent before advancing into senior leadership roles across food and beverage, conference services, human resources, and general management. This foundation has informed a leadership philosophy rooted in service culture, accountability, and people development.
Over the course of his career, Maynard has held executive roles with some of the most influential brands and visionaries in hospitality. He served as General Manager for iconic properties within Ian Schrager Hotels and Starwood’s W and Westin brands, including leadership roles at W New York and the Westin New York Grand Central. He later became Executive Vice President of Operations at Denihan Hospitality, overseeing a diverse portfolio of luxury and lifestyle hotels with combined annual revenues exceeding $500 million.
As President of SIXTY Hotels, Maynard led company-owned, managed, and contracted assets while shaping the brand’s ethos, operational DNA, and long-term growth strategy. His tenure was marked by strong financial performance, creative brand positioning, and a commitment to guest experience innovation. He subsequently returned to Ian Schrager Company as Managing Director of Public Hotel, overseeing a complex, high-volume operation with nine food and beverage venues and more than $100 million in annualized revenue.
Currently, Maynard serves as Executive Director and General Manager of Coterie Hudson Yards by Atria, a luxury senior living community that reimagines hospitality-driven living for older adults. In this role, he applies five-star service principles, operational rigor, and human-centered leadership to an emerging sector at the intersection of hospitality, wellness, and community.
In parallel with his executive career, Maynard has been an Adjunct Professor at New York University since 2007, teaching undergraduate courses in hospitality management, revenue management, CRM, hotel operations, and rooms management. Known for his candid, experience-based teaching style, he emphasizes leadership, ethics, financial discipline, and the realities of modern hospitality operations.
Born and raised in the Adirondacks of upstate New York, Maynard brings a grounded sensibility to an otherwise global career. He holds an Associate degree in Hospitality Management from Paul Smith’s College and remains deeply committed to mentoring students and emerging leaders in an industry he continues to shape.
