<p>Offering students a full immersion in the fast-paced world of real estate, the <a href="/content/sps-nyu/explore/degrees-and-programs/ms-in-real-estate-development.html" title="MS in Real Estate Development">MS in Real Estate Development</a> program brings real-world professionals into the classroom as instructors. Clinical Professor Manish Srivastava is one of them, having executed over $50 billion worth of transactions across a range of industries and transaction types throughout his career.</p>
<p>We had the opportunity to speak with Srivastava to learn more about his impressive decades-long career, his advice for prospective students, and what they can hope to achieve in the program.</p>
Jack of All Trades, Including Teaching
<p>Srivastava is an architect, real estate developer, and investment professional by trade, impacting everything in real estate from development, design, finance, transitions, litigation, investing, and beyond. His academic background includes a bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of Lucknow in India, followed by dual master's degrees in architecture studies and real estate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). An eye for architectural detail has served Srivastava well in his colorful career in real estate development. Students in the MS in Real Estate Development program benefit from his unique perspective.<br>

<p>With his diverse set of skills, Srivastava knew he could make an impact on new real estate professionals who wanted to take the next step in their careers. Before becoming a professor, his colleagues frequently told him he should go into teaching. He shares, "That was humbling and inspired me to learn and share with my colleagues and later with my students, and this process has become who I am as a professor today."</p>
Fueled by the Future
<p>Many instructors within the Schack Institute of Real Estate agree that their students are among the most self-motivated in their profession. Srivastava is no exception.</p>

<p>As Srivastava continues his pursuit of meaningful impact, he enjoys seeing the successes of his students. Having the opportunity to shape the minds of the future of real estate is a gratifying reason to show up to the classroom semester after semester. Global Leaders at the Forefront of Real Estate
<p>Teaching several courses on global real estate, such as Global Cities: South Asia and Applied Project in Global Real Estate, Srivastava understands how critical it is for students to develop a global mindset. He predicts, "We will increasingly live in a multipolar world, particularly from an intellectual perspective." As the world continues to shift in this way, he suggests that exceptional ethics will serve as the foundation for future multidimensional technical leadership in real estate. </p>
<p>Diversity of thought powered by celebrating cultural differences, common humanity, and creativity, are also part of Srivastava's vision for the future of the industry. "I seek to impart a global mindset to my students, and all the courses I teach are infused with this motivation," he continues.</p>
<p>Just as the world evolves, so does Srivastava. He constantly learns alongside his students, seeking to "reconstruct silos of thoughts that restrict thinking on real estate, urban development, city formation, and reformations."</p>
Advice for New Real Estate Professionals
<p>There's no place on earth quite like New York City to study real estate development, which is something Srivastava warns students not to take for granted.
