<p><span class="p-body">Sumit Gupta earned an MS in Management &amp; Systems from SPS in 2015. Today, he is changing the face of Health Equity for people all over the world by using Machine Learning Algorithms and Deep Learning/Language Processing to provide patient-focused equitable health. Recently, Gupta received the 2023 NYU SPS Distinguished Alumni Award and addressed the graduates at the NYU SPS Graduate Convocation.</span></p>

<p><span class="p-body">Having served as VP of data science and lead data scientist at CVS Health, Gupta has spearheaded various healthcare initiatives around equitable health, addressing bias in AI, and providing seamless access to care for people based on need. He has also enabled federal initiatives to provide access to vaccines and testing as well as COVID-related healthcare services.</span></p> <p><span class="p-body">Perhaps most notably, Gupta used his love of code to build a live, ML-based, predictive COVID resource named Find a Bed. After Priyanka Chopra Jonas tweeted about it, it was subsequently accessed and used by over 110 million people within three months.</span></p>

<p><span class="p-body">Gupta's drive to enable better healthcare via data science comes not from quantitative analysis, but from the handful of candid encounters he has had with patients and their families, demonstrating to him the impact of bettering the lives of others in critical times of need.</span></p> <p><span class="p-body">Gupta's AI/ML solutions have reached various first-of-their-kind pilots in health care, technology and logistics. He has helped enable campaigns towards increased vaccine access for equitable health and minorities who face higher health care needs, but lesser access.</span></p>

<p><span class="p-body">While he was at NYU, Gupta received the NYU President's Service Award for work towards leadership engagements across various student bodies and health-focused initiatives such as &quot;Live Well NYU.&quot; He is still engaged with students—having been invited to judge Hackathons, inspire change at hubs like Black Enterprise NY, and deliver keynotes at national conferences.</span></p> <p><span class="p-body">Gupta additionally has been a core part of the Alumni Network (RAN), has appeared in NYU's Alumni Connect sharing anecdotes, and frequents NYU campus on recruiting panels and sharing on the podium.
