The Building Better Cities Collaborative (BBCC) at NYU’s Schack Institute of Real Estate brings together mid-career professionals from across the built environment to advance more livable, prosperous, and sustainable cities.
BBCC pursues a dual ambition — to collectively generate innovative responses to systemic urban challenges, and to strengthen each Fellow’s individual capacity to deliver that change in the future.
The Collaborative Group Project is the applied, outward-facing strand of the fellowship, where Fellows work collectively to generate proposals with the potential
for real impact on the city.
The course goal is to grasp the full complexity of a systemic urban challenge and to drive an innovative solution that aligns the many interests at stake. It is delivered
across both semesters: Direction in Semester 1 and Synthesis in Semester 2.
In Direction, Fellows investigate their challenge, gather precedents, and identify where innovation is needed — then bring that thinking together into an initial
proposal, presented for feedback at the mid-year review.
